This book is the unabashed product of privilege. Not the privilege of wealth or birth. Rather, it is the privilege of having been able for nearly a lifetime to spend my days in the unmatched satisfaction of a rewarding career in Montessori education working with children. Whatever I may have been able to contribute to these children (and their families) pales beside the joy and delight each day brought me. My experience is the force behind this book. I want to try to give back to the profession that has meant so much to me. Perhaps I will never even the score, but I hope that this book will make a dent in that commission.
